                           John Smart
                 2013 Volunteer of the Year
At the 2014 January MAFE Convention, John Smart was awarded the 2013 Volunteer of the Year Award for Zone 6, which is all the fairs in the U.P.  This award is for all the volunteer hours and projects that he had done for the Chippewa County Fair in 2013
John is always there when there is work to be done.  He organized the crew and the hours to build a new livestock office, spending almost every Friday and Saturday for 2 months at the grounds.  He traveled around getting bids for the building and making arrangements for the equipment to be there to compete the project.
John is always at the workbees including the weighing and tagging of market beef in Dec, and tagging of lambs, swine and goats in June.
John is the market beef superintendent for the fair, and he also sets on the livestock, building and contract committees.
It does not matter what you ask John to do, he is willing to work on it.
Congratulations John on this well deserved award.
                    Jim Cryderman

2013 Heritage Award Winner
At the 2014 MAFE Convention , Jim Cryderman
was awarded the 2013 Heritage Award for his many years volunteering at our fair.
A member of the fair board since 2000, Jim is involved in all aspects of the fair with a main focus on the youth livestock program and draft horse and pony pullings.
He volunteers many hours with the livestock program - registration days, entry day and getting the livestock  housed in the barn.
Jim is always there to help when we have work bees to do projects for the fair.  This past summer he used his building trade skills to help build the new livestock office.  He was there every day, working, teaching and helping show the other volunteers how to accomplish the tasks at hand in the most efficient manner.
Jim works with the youth program to create a positive environment for the youth of our lcommunity, so they can develop into young adults that will become leaders in our community.
We on the Fair Board would like to THANK Jim for his many years of dedication to the goals of the Chippewa County Fair Board and youth of our community.
                 2013 Senior Appreciation Award
At the Senior Appreciationn luncheion, a special award is given to honor a senior citizen who has given freely of their time and talents to help make the fair a memorable event for all to enjoy.  This Senior is not a member of the Fair Board or it's many designated superintendents.
This years 2013 Senior Appreciation Award went to someone who has been very active in the Chippewa County Fair since moving to the U.P. in the 1980's.
She has been  an Open exhibits superintendent.  She also enters items in the fair, such as the beautiful quilts that she makes.
For the past years she has helped her husband with the harness races held at the fair.
We want to thank EMILY BOONE for the many, many hours she has spent helping and promoting the Chippewa County Fair.
